The Face Frozen in Time
by Alaena Hope and V. Shalace
Summary
When she heard the news that Lumika University would be hosting this year’s Spirit Festival, the country’s largest amateur sorcerers’ competition, freshman student Shyn Shirolei expected many things from the disruption of her classes to the flood of strangers in the streets. None of those expectations, however, had included having to save one particularly strange stranger from an even more peculiar assailant. Nor had they included becoming the involuntary new owner of a fragment of some mysterious artifact covered in arcane runes no one can read.
Now, instead of sitting back and enjoying the festivities, Shyn has to track down the real owner of the artifact fragment and find out why it’s so important while assisting her friend Kaytis with debunking rumors that the Lumika U team is cursed.

Some Random Trivia
The original working title for this novel was "The Frozen Eye of Fortune".
Fairchime is a winter holiday that celebrates the bonds between people and all those things that warm the spirit. It evolved out of several old traditions during which people came together to weather the long nights of the winter season to lift each other’s spirits. In modern times, the holiday has a great focus on music, light-based arts and gathering. It is also quite common to exchange gifts on Fairchime much the way people in our world do now during Christmas.
